The Jamaica Labour Party offers its sincere congratulations to President-elect Barack Obama on his history making election victory to become the forty-fourth president of the United States.

The General Secretary of the JLP, Mr. Karl Samuda said no other United States election in recent memory has attracted and commanded this degree of international attention.

A TRIBUTE TO DANIEL EDGAR WARREN-KIDD SNR, O.D.

The Jamaica Labour Party regrets the passing of 97 year old Mr. Daniel Edgar Warren-Kidd Snr, OD who died recently at the University Hospital.

Mr. Warren–Kidd was a founding member of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU). He was a close friend of Sir. Alexander Bustamante, and at one time served as his Special Advisor. He always expressed his love and respect for Lady Bustamante.

G2K CALLS ON JAMAICANS TO NOT RIOT

Generation 2000, the young professional affiliate of the Jamaica Labour Party is calling on the Jamaican people to resist any incitement to riot post the presentation of Minister of Finance, the Honourable Audley Shaw.

The organization is reacting to persistent rumors that an island wide protest is being planned for Friday, by elements intent on scoring political points and destabilizing the country.

It is the considered view of Generation 2000 (G2K), the young professional affiliate of the Jamaica Labour Party, that the document presented by the ‘PNPYO’ to the Prime Minister on Monday at the culmination of their failed attempt to galvanise the youth of Jamaica to protest, lacks credibility or substance.

The Jamaica Labour Party in a release today said it sympathizes with the plight and poor condition of all Jamaicans who are without formally recognized shelter and land settlement solutions. Nevertheless, the JLP does not support, endorse or trivialize the practice of illegal settlement of land. Shelter is a human right and the JLP is committed to ensuring that the government provides opportunities for all Jamaicans to acquire land and shelter solutions within the framework and order of the Law which preserves property rights for all.

JLP DEEPLY SADDENED AT PERALTO’S PASSING

The Jamaica Labour Party in a release today said it is deeply saddened at the sudden passing of long standing Party member, Businessman and Author, Mr. Ryan Peralto. Mr. Peralto was 75 years old.

Mr. Peralto passed away early this morning at the Andrews Memorial Hospital in Kingston, Jamaica. He previously complained of chest pains and was subsequently taken to Hospital.
