FIRSTCARIBBEAN Bank has filed its defence in the $30- million lawsuit brought against it by former People's National Party (PNP) minister Collin Campbell in which it distanced itself from its ex-senior executive Sonia Christie, who allegedly leaked banking information regarding transactions between the oil trader Trafigura Beheer BV and an account to which Campbell was a signatory.

PRIME Minister Bruce Golding said yesterday that intelligence reports from the security forces on the current crime wave show similarities, which raise questions about the source of some killings.
The prime minister said that in identifying the areas where the upsurge is most pronounced, the intelligence reports showed that these areas have 'something in common'.

Prime Minister Bruce Golding says he will be urgently seeking a resumption of talks with the People's National Party (PNP) to discuss Jamaica's crime problem.

National Security Minister, Colonel Trevor MacMillan, says new measures were introduced by the police on Saturday to stem the crime wave.
MacMillan, who was addressing yesterday's post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House, said the new measures include the intensification of efforts to dismantle criminal networks; the strategic deployment of law enforcement personnel in communities recently attacked by criminals and a renewed focus on hot spot policing.

THE Vale Royal Talks ended yesterday with Government and Opposition agreeing to take a hardline approach to the increasing criminality, with initiatives that will involve intensified military and police activity, especially in crime-ridden sections of the country.
