Minister of National Security, Senator the Hon. Dwight Nelson, has invited members of the Jamaica Police Federation to return to the bargaining table with Government so that a settlement can be reached on the wage issue.
Prime Minister Presents Motorised Wheelchair to Physically Challenged Policeman

Prime Minister Bruce Golding, today (May 28), presented a motorised wheelchair to Sergeant Cecil Smythe, during a ceremony at the City Centre Police Station, in downtown Kingston.
The wheelchair will assist the committed policeman, who was made physically challenged some 22 years ago after being accidentally shot by a colleague while on duty, to move around more comfortably while carrying out his duties.
Samuda Proposes One Stop Facility to Establish Businesses

Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Hon. Karl Samuda, has proposed the implementation of a "one stop shop" facility, to reduce the time it takes to establish businesses in Jamaica.
He was speaking on May 28, at a Roundtable Discussion on the 2009 Doing Business Report held at the Jamaica Trade and Invest (JTI) on Trafalgar Road in Kingston.

Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Karl Samuda, has pledged the Government's support in promoting the continued growth and development of the small business and productive enterprises.
Speaking at the Prime Minister's Town Hall meeting at the Portmore HEART Academy, in St. Catherine, on May 26, Mr. Samuda said it is the Government's intention to expand the involvement of Jamaicans in small businesses and promote the sector from one end of the island to the next.

Minister of National Security, Senator the Hon. Dwight Nelson today (May 27), toured a number of troubled communities in St. James and the police stations which serve these areas.
The Minister, who was accompanied by a team from the Ministry and senior police officers from Area One, toured the communities of Granville, Mount Salem, Rose Heights, Canterbury and Flankers, and got a firsthand look at police stations at Montego Freeport, Anchovy, Granville and Mount Salem.
Seniors Urged to Fulfill Role as Culture Bearers

Minister of State in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, Hon. Andrew Gallimore, has called on the country's seniors to fulfill their role as culture bearers and to take the time to impart their cultural experiences to the younger generation.
Bemoaning the decline in the values of today's youth, he implored golden agers to be proactive and mentor young people, and to share with them positive values passed on by past generations.
Dairy Herd Recording Programme to Boost Local Milk Production

A Dairy Herd Recording Programme has been launched, which will better assist farmers to select the best milk-producing cattle in their herds and to boost milk production in Jamaica.
Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Dr. Christopher Tufton, who launched the programme yesterday (May 27) at the Bodles Research Station in St. Catherine, said that since 1978, there has been no recording of milk production in Jamaica and this has coincided with a loss of productivity in the national herd.

Prime Minister Bruce Golding has assured redundant sugar workers that within a month they will be receiving payments due to them.
Last night (May 27) he told listeners on his call-in radio programme Jamaica House Live, "We gave an undertaking that redundancy payments will be made in June. Both the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed to me a week ago that plans are in place for redundancy payments to be made in the first half of the month."

12-Month Extension for Full Implementation of Local Government Reform

The Government has extended by 12 months, the time frame for the full implementation of the recommendations for Local Government Reform.
Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Local Government, Robert Montague, speaking at the second in a series of island wide Town Hall meetings on May 26 at the Portmore HEART Academy in St. Catherine, said that the 24 months timetable, set aside by Prime Minister, Bruce Golding, was not sufficient time to implement all the recommendations.
