The Trelawny Parish Council has introduced a paid parking system for the town of Falmouth to help ease the traffic congestion in the town.

Motorists are now required to pay $50 to park in designated areas from Monday to Saturday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The roads listed for paid parking are Lower Parade Street, Georges Street, Market Street, Water Square, Trelawny Street, Cornwall Street, Seaboard Street, Officers Alley and King Street.

The parish council says if motorists park outside the designated areas their vehicles will be clamped and they will be fined $2,000.

The Mayor of Falmouth Councillor Colin Gager says the new parking arrangements will also help to generate well-needed revenue for the Trelawny Parish Council.
