Cabinet is also expected to discuss the Government’s plans to assist Chile following the massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake on Saturday which has so far resulted in the deaths of more than 700 people.

Massive damage is said to be hampering rescue teams as they struggle to reach those still buried in the rubble.

And the Chilean Government has since declared a curfew in two of the worst-hit areas - Maule and Concepcion.

In the meantime the Jamaican Government will also be seeking to determine whether any Jamaicans were affected by the quake.

Up to late yesterday, the minister with responsibility for information Daryl Vaz said there were no reports at the time of Jamaicans being affected.

And the prime minister Bruce Golding is to meet with representatives of the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) on Wednesday to review Jamaica’s own state of readiness to deal with an earthquake.

Since the start of the year, earthquakes have struck several countries in the Caribbean and Latin America including Haiti where more than 200,000 people were killed following a 7.0 quake in January.
