G2K CALLS ON JAMAICANS TO NOT RIOT
April 23, 2009
Generation 2000, the young professional affiliate of the Jamaica Labour Party is calling on the Jamaican people to resist any incitement to riot post the presentation of Minister of Finance, the Honourable Audley Shaw.
The organization is reacting to persistent rumors that an island wide protest is being planned for Friday, by elements intent on scoring political points and destabilizing the country.
G2K President Senator Warren Newby, in a release today described as reckless any such consideration given the delicate position the economy is in, and asks that those intent on mayhem, analyze the long term impact any such action could have on our already severely strained economy.
The organization head implored that a spirit of reasonableness and analysis be pursued on the financing of the budget and that avenues for dialogue and consensus –building, and diplomacy should be exhausted before any such action is contemplated.
We therefore call on all well thinking Jamaicans to resist and deter any attempts to destabilize the country for short term gain.
