Building a Better Jamaica

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Hon. Dr. Kenneth Baugh, has called on Jamaica's foreign missions to aggressively seek out new investment and trade opportunities for the country.

Addressing members of staff of the Embassy of Jamaica in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday (March 17), Dr. Baugh said there is an urgent need to engage the Diaspora to identify overseas investment opportunities and to consider investing in the country themselves.

"Jamaica will not be deterred by the current economic crisis and we should not give up. We should use the present economic crisis to create new economic opportunities," he stated.

Noting that the Government is working assiduously to attract a wide range of investments, which would help to drive the economy, Dr. Baugh informed that discussions were being held with investors in Kuwait, Brazil and China, who have expressed interest in a number of sectors.

The Foreign Minister, in the meantime, commended the members of staff of the embassy on the important role they play as representatives of Jamaica overseas.

Dr. Baugh, who was in Washington, D.C. on an official one day visit, also held talks with Ambassador to the US, His Excellency Anthony Johnson on a number of trade-related issues.
