Prime Minister and minister of education, Andrew Holness, is encouraging parents, particularly fathers, to develop the habit of reading aloud with their children.
He said that this simple practice will not only help to solidify the "bond of love" between child and parent, but will also prepare the child's mind for the school system.

The Ministry of Education is to take action at six primary schools which continue to perform poorly in the Grade Four Literacy Test.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness made the disclosure yesterday after revealing that some schools got zero per cent mastery for the 2011 sitting of the examination and declaring that such results could not be tolerated.

Former Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) president Ruel Reid has commended education minister Andrew Holness, who is now set to become prime minister, for his transformational role in the education sector.
Mr Reid, who is a special advisor to the minister, said in a statement that the education minister during his tenure ensured the mainstreaming of technical education as part of its transformation.
He says the minister has also repositioned the HEART Trust/NTA and NCTVET programmes.

KINGSTON — Minister of Education, Hon Andrew Holness, has emphasised the need for more protection of the environment and for the creation of more green spaces for communities.
"We know that children who grow up in areas that are well greened in trees and flowers, and grow up with animals tend to have a milder attitude, they tend to work together, they are more caring and more willing to take care of others, and their surroundings,” Mr. Holness said.
