FALMOUTH, Trelawny — JAMAICA Labour Party (JLP) caretaker for Trelawny North, Senator Dennis Meadows, has welcomed plans by the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) to have the seaside town of Falmouth declared a Designated Area.

BLACK RIVER, St Elizabeth:
Mayor of Black River, Jeremy Palmer, has appealed to persons in St Elizabeth to desist from the needless lighting of outdoor fires, as it was straining the resources of the fire brigade in the parish.
Speaking to journalists after the monthly meeting of the council last Thursday, the mayor called for a more robust public education programme to save properties from destruction.

Mayor of Black River, Councillor Jeremy Palmer, has appealed to persons in St. Elizabeth to desist from lighting fires, as this is causing a drain on the recourses of the fire brigade in the parish.
Speaking to journalists after the monthly meeting of the Council on February 11, the Mayor pointed out that there are laws governing the ways fires can be lit, and called for the public education programme to be stepped up, to save properties from being destroyed.
Ground Broken for $32 Million Road Project in St. Elizabeth

Ground was broken on Friday (Jan. 22) for the rehabilitation of the 3.2 kilometres Greenfield Road in St. Elizabeth.
The work will be carried out at a cost of $32 million, with the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) providing $27 million, and the remaining $5 million coming from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

THE Government has signed loan agreements with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), totalling US$31 million (J$2.7 billion), to cover justice and road improvement programmes.
Minister of Finance and the Public Service Audley Shaw signed both agreements Wednesday. They cover the Citizens Security and Justice Programme II and the Road Improvement Programme.

Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Dominique Strauss-Kahn, has said the global economic crisis must not be used as a distraction from tackling issues of climate change.
"Sustaining the recovery and putting in place effective climate-change policies can be mutually reinforcing with the right policies implemented resolutely," Strauss-Kahn said.
World leaders are meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark with a view to agreeing on a successor to the Kyoto Protocol.
