Spanish Town's Old Courthouse to Become Civic Centre

The old courthouse in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, will be refurbished and transformed into a thriving civic centre for residents of the community, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Hon. Olivia Grange, has stated.

Miss Grange said the hope is to convert the old site into a place of positive energy and reinforcement for the youths of the town.

Kingston Wharves to Manage Caribbean Trans-shipment Hub

The new Caribbean Transshipment Hub, which will facilitate the transporting of large motor vehicles throughout the region, was officially launched on Friday (Feb.26) during a ceremony held on board the 'Höegh Caribia' at Kingston Wharves.

This hub, previously sited in San Juan, Puerto Rico has been relocated to Jamaica and terminal operations will now be facilitated and managed by Kingston Wharves Limited.

Mayor of Portmore Wants Toll Operator to Assist With Repairing Roads

Mayor of the Municipality of Portmore, in St. Catherine, Keith Hinds, is calling for the operators of the Portmore leg of Highway 2000 to place five per cent of all monthly gains at the toll into a special fund, which would go towards rehabilitating the roadways in the community.

The Mayor proposes that the fund be called the Portmore Road Development Fund, emphasising that it is high time that the operators of the roadway show their appreciation to the people of Portmore.

Roslyn Road Rehab Brings Relief to Albion Mountain

Residents of Albion Mountain, St. Mary, are breathing a sigh of relief following the $4.5 million rehabilitation of the Roslyn main road in the community.

The road was recently resurfaced through the cooperation of the European Union (EU) and the St. Mary Parish Council. Funding to the tune of approximately $2.7 million was provided by the EU, while the remaining $1.8 million was contributed by the Parish Council.
