Minister with responsibility for Information, Telecommunications and Special Projects, Hon. Daryl Vaz, has assured that the Government is not interested in getting into a quarrel with the media.

Mr. Vaz, who was addressing journalists at the weekly post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House, today (Sept. 1), was responding to recent reports relating to the Prime Minister and his comments made in relation to how information is presented by the press.

Minister of National Security, Senator Hon. Dwight Nelson, has assured members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) that the Government is working assiduously to bring closure to their salary negotiations.

"There have been differences in the way we believe we should go forward but, let me assure you that, we are determined to find a way to achieve finality in this pressing demand," Senator Nelson said.

Tourism Minister, Hon. Edmund Bartlett will be among six Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Tourism Ministers and delegates from the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO), who will be meeting in London next week to discuss changes to the British Government's airline passenger tax regime.

The meetings come just eight weeks before the Airline Passenger Duty (APD) is set to increase from £50 to £75 per person for economy class seats and from £100 to £150 in premium economy, business and first class.

The Ministry of Energy and Mining is to collaborate with the Organization of American States (OAS) to negotiate technical support, in the area of capacity building in Jamaica's energy policy.

This was noted by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Hillary Alexander, at the two-day Renewable Energy Meeting and site visits for Energy Ministers and other senior government officials from Central America and the Caribbean, in Miami, August 27-28.

Prime Minister Bruce Golding is slated to meet with several private-sector leaders this morning to provide answers to their questions on the Manatt, Phelps & Phillips affair.

Private-sector leaders had submitted six questions to Golding in the wake of a Sunday Gleaner exposé on the emails shared by Solicitor General Douglas Leys, local attorney Harold Brady and the American law firm Manatt, Phelps & Phillips.
