The Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) says it has intensified its efforts to clampdown on persons who put up structures without the necessary approvals.

Kingston’s Mayor Desmond McKenzie says the KSAC’s enforcement team began working on the weekend, targeting buildings in Patrick City and Duhaney Park.

Mr. McKenzie says the team visited more 30 construction sites of which only four had been granted the required permits.

THE Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) has placed a stop order on work on a four-storey building in Lawrence Tavern, St Andrew, parts of which collapsed Sunday killing a contractor and injuring four other workers.

According to Deputy Mayor Lee Clarke, several faults -- including weak concrete columns and beams were discovered by city engineers -- who along with himself and Town Clerk Errol Green toured the property, yesterday.
