THE ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) said it intends to increase Jamaica’s tourism market share by preserving traditional markets while exploring new markets in nontraditional countries.

MONTEGO BAY — Against the background of projections for a five per cent increase in tourist arrivals for the 2011/2012 winter tourist season over 2010/2011, Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett, was at the Sangster International Airport, Montego Bay, Thursday December 15, 2011 for the official start of the new season.

KINGSTON — The Ministry of Tourism is reporting net increase of 3,000 additional jobs in the accommodation sector over the past three years, while expansion projects are expected to generate 21,648 direct/permanent jobs across the industry between 2011 and 2013.

THE forthcoming winter tourism season, which begins on December 15, promises to be the best ever for the country, tourism minister Edmund Bartlett has said.
Speaking at the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) board of directors luncheon held at the Knutsford Court Hotel on Tuesday, Bartlett said that the upcoming winter season (November to April) is expected to see 769,385 visitor arrivals, 36,637 more than last year.

The Ministry of Tourism has projected earnings of some US$843 million for Jamaica this winter tourist season.
Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett, who was addressing Jamaica Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors Luncheon Forum yesterday, said this estimate is based on one million airlift seats that have been secured by the ministry.
Bartlett said this is expected to result in about 769, 385 visitors arriving in Jamaica.

NEW Prime Minister Andrew Holness went with good news to Jamaica’s tourism mecca of Montego Bay, announcing that $60 billion in capital investment, creating 21,648 jobs through 15,825 new rooms, is on the cards for the industry over the next four years.
Ministry reviews ground transportation system for cruise passengers

The process by which cruise-ship passengers who visit Jamaica are transported from all ports to attractions and other locations will soon be streamlined.
In making the disclosure, tourism minister Edmund Bartlett said, "the current system, where various entities are responsible for the transfer of these visitors, will cease and, by the start of the 2011/2012 winter tourist Season, a new arrangement will come into being."
More Tourists from Canada expected in Jamaica this Winter

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett has announced that 300,000 airline seats have been secured out of Canada for the upcoming Winter Tourist Season.
He said this will set the stage for record arrivals out of Canada.
In a release Thursday, Mr Bartlett said the boost follows the addition of three new flights from Canada.
Mr. Bartlett said two of the new flights will come from Thunder Bay, Ontario and one new flight from St. John’s, Newfoundland.
