PNP Refuses to Address Real Issues

February 16, 2016

JLP Leader Andrew Holness responded to the PNP after once again bringing up his house after Mr. Holness’ unprecedented disclosure of his finances earlier this week:

“As much as the PNP wants to distract from the real issues of the campaign in hopes of finding something there, there is nothing. Furthermore, I heard earlier the National Integrity Action (NIA) is satisfied with our unprecedented disclosure this week. This is more of the same PNP smoke and mirrors trying to hide from the fact they have presided over a failed economy:

“Instead of defending their 13.7% unemployment rate, let alone how they have let down Jamaican youth’s with over 30% youth unemployment, they want to talk about a house.

“Instead of discussing the PNP government’s massive budget shortfall, they want to talk about a house.

“Instead of discussing the troubling crime rates under PNP leadership, they want to talk about a house.

“Instead of talking about soaring interest rates due to PNP policies, leaving Jamaicans with less take home pay than when JLP was in leadership, they want to talk about a house.

“Instead of talking about the details to the exorbitant price tag of the same recycled proposals in the PNP manifesto that have failed Jamaicans for almost 30 years, they want to talk about a house.

“Instead of debating our proposal to grow economy by abolishing personal income tax for everyone who earns a gross salary of JA$1.5m or less, putting more money into people’s pockets, they want to talk about a house.

“Instead of debating our proposal to reform the National Housing Trust, the Housing Agency and the Mortgage Bank to expand affordable housing construction and reduce interest rates on mortgages, they want to talk about a house.

“Instead of debating our proposal to establish a National Apprenticeship Programme and a National Service Programme to train our unemployed youth, they want to talk about a house.

“I am tired of them running away from the real issues facing Jamaicans. This is not a serious, issue focused party. The PNP is out of ideas and not fit to lead. The truth of the matter is, I built my house, block by block with my own hands, and I am ready to rebuild the nation.”
