Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and Parliamentary Opposition, Andrew Holness, is today highlighting the Party's contribution to Jamaica's development as it commemorates its 72nd anniversary.

Mr. Holness says: "Today, July 8, 2015, marks 72 years since the father of our nation's independence, the Rt. Excellent Sir Alexander Bustamante, formed the great Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).  It was Sir Alexander's deep and abiding love of country and belief that a better life could be enjoyed by all, that led him to champion the rights of the Jamaican worker and establish the JLP as an agent of political, social and economic development and progress.

We are proud to mark this 72nd anniversary of our beloved Party.  As we did in 1943 when we championed the rights of workers and marginalized Jamaicans, the JLP remains resolute and committed to the vision of a just and equitable society, protecting and expanding the rights of all Jamaicans, and increasing the well-being and shared prosperity for the people of this great country.

We are the Party of progress.  We put Jamaica first and are unrepentant about advancing Jamaica's interests at all times.  We are proud of our record of growth, expanding access and improving the quality of education and health-care, in training our workforce, in reducing crime, in promoting and preserving our culture and creating a harmonious and stable economic environment for labour and capital to thrive and build.

On our founding day we recommit to the people of Jamaica, and thank God for his grace and ask for his guidance and blessing as we unite to move Jamaica from poverty to shared prosperity."
